You'll see our 3 tennis courts as you approach the property. As you drive through the gates, please notice the office and clubhouse on the left. A path runs beside the office to the courts. You'll see the pool is directly ahead of you and the beach is just beyond the pool. Building A is on the right and Building B is on the left.
With our large swimming pool, kiddie pool and tennis courts, you'll find a vacation home with our nice selection of vacation rentals. Our pool is open from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm each day. WIFI is available on the upper pool deck and the deck along the back of the clubhouse for those who need to check in with home or the office. work is a bad word on vacation but sometimes a "must".
You will find many fine restaurants on Tybee. Each owner has their favorites they can recommend to you. Tybee has many "unusual" events scheduled throughout the summer. During the summer, movies are scheduled and shown outdoors at Tybee's Memorial Park. It's quite relaxing and great fun for families.

Fort Screven Tybee

In 1786, the Georgia Legislature approved the creation of a fort on Cockspur or Tybee Island to be named in honor of General James Screven, a Revolutionary War hero. The fort was never built by the state, but in 1808, the property fell under the jurisdiction of the Federal government as Fort Screven Reservation.

In 1855, the government approved building Fort Screven on the north end of Tybee to provide modern seacoast defense. Six poured-concrete, low-profile gun batteries (named for war heroes) and a minefield were ordered for Tybee along with hundreds of other military buildings. From 1897 to 1947, the fort was an integral part of America’s Coastal Defense system. Troops stood guard on Tybee through the Spanish American War of 1898, World War I and World War II. In 1947, the Fort was closed and sold to the Town of Tybee and tourism returned as a major part of Tybee’s history. By the 1950s many of the forts buildings had been converted for use by private owners.

In 1961, Battery Garland, the former gun battery and magazine for a 12 inch long-range gun, became the Tybee Island museum. A room that once stored six hundred pound projectiles and two hundred pound bags of gun powder, now hold the collections and exhibits of more than four hundred years of Tybee Island history.

Crab Shack Tybee Island

The concept for The Crab Shack began in 1990. Prior to that it was just a sleepy little fishing camp with a boat hoist, boat storage, live bait sales and a bar in the ship’s store where the locals could congregate and exaggerate their catches at the end of a day’s fishing. My wife at the time, Belinda Flanigan, and I are licensed Captains and we ran fishing charters. Belinda (still my business partner) ran inshore while I ran offshore charters.

I had been in the bar, restaurant and night club business most of my life prior to this venture so it was inevitable that we decided to serve food on Friday and Saturday only. This quickly changed to what it is today – 7 days a week 362 days a year. We are closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve & Christmas. When the restaurant began, our charter fishing days were over along with the boat storage and live bait sales. The boat hoist still remains so restaurant customers can watch the local fishermen put their boats in and see the catches they bring back. Hopefully, you’ll take the time for a virtual tour of our restaurant through the web cam and many photos we offer on line. While a picture is worth a thousand words, you can’t appreciate our ambiance until you join us. Once you do, you’ll see why we've been voted “Best Seafood” and “Best Outdoor Dining” since 1998. We have plenty of indoor space for dining in inclement weather so no matter what time of year, you’ll enjoy The Crab Shack.

Fort Pulaski National Monument Tybee

Fort Pulaski National Monument is located between Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia. It preserves Fort Pulaski, notable as the place where, during theAmerican Civil War, in 1862, the Union Army successfully tested a rifled cannon. The success of the test rendered brick fortifications obsolete. The fort was also used as a prisoner-of-war camp. The National Monument includes most ofCockspur Island (containing the fort) and all of adjacent McQueens Island.
Here on April 11, 1862, defense strategy changed worldwide when Union rifled cannon first overcame a masonry fortification after only 30 hours of bombardment. Named for Revolutionary War hero, Count Casimir Pulaski, Fort Pulaski took some 18 years to build and was the first military assignment for a young second lieutenant fresh from West Point - Robert E. Lee. This remarkably intact example of 19th century military architecture, with its estimated 25 million brick and 7.5 foot thick walls, is preserved for future generations by the National Park Service as a reminder of the elusiveness of invincibility.
Fort Pulaski National Monument was established by Presidential Proclamation on October 15, 1924. It contains 5,365 acres, including some of the most pristine and scenic marshland on the Georgia coast.

FACILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES:

Visitor Center, Exhibits: A 17-minute film, "The Battle for Fort Pulaski," is shown on demand in the visitor center. Museum exhibits provide information on the history and significance of the fort. There is a bookstore located in the visitor center lobby managed by Eastern National Park and Monument Association.
A Curriculum Guide, based on State of Georgia standards, is availabe for teachers bringing school groups.
Fort Programs, Activities: Ranger led talks and demonstrations are presented in the fort daily during the summer and on weekends the rest of the year. Special talks may be available to school and other large groups by reservation throughout the year. Call for reservations.

Trails, Roads: Quarter-mile, self-guiding nature trail. Bicycles allowed on trails, except those leading to fort.

Lodging and Camping Facilities: Hotels and campgrounds are available on Tybee Island (4 miles east) and in Savannah (15 miles west).

Food, Supplies: Located on Tybee Island (4 miles east) and Wilmington Island (4 miles west).

Other Facilities and Opportunities:

Boat launching ramp. Fishing areas. Picnic area. Cockspur Island Lighthouse, built in 1857, accessible only by private boat.

Accessibility: Visitor Center exhibits, programs and parking are accessible. A tape tour is available, as well as printed transcripts of some audio programs. The fort (most of the lower level) is wheelchair accessible, as are the restrooms located there. There is one wheelchair accessible nature trail. The picnic area has accessible parking, tables and restrooms.

The DeSoto Beach B&B has two deluxe rooms & two suites. The Tybee Honeymoon Suite, The Butler Room, The Atlantic Room, and on the ground level, The Nautical Suite. All are filled with selected furniture authentic to the period of construction.

In 1910, a loving father built a home at the beach for his daughter Georgianne. This home became The Georgianne Inn in 1921. It has since that time lived many lives and undergone many changes, but her name remains the same.
Her description is elusive, but those who have stayed here sense her timelessness. Many have expressed upsurges of memories from childhood reminiscent of a visit to grandma's house.
