Back in the early 1900′s people from Savannah would pack lunches and take the train to Tybee Island to enjoy a day at the beach. At the south end of old railroad bed, which is now Butler avenue, stands Hunter House. Built in 1910 as a family beach house it was renovated in 1998 opened for business in May 1989 and is now one of the best restaurants and inns on the Georgia coast.
It’s southern beach house charm begins to embrace you as you climb up the stairs to the second floor verandah. Entering the dark wood paneled foyer is only the beginning of a special evening of Victorian ambiance and culinary delights. There you are greeted by John Hunter and his friendly staff before being seated at a candle lit table in one of the three small dining rooms.
